A vulnerability in Apple's system exposed users' personal data

A serious flaw has been discovered in Apple's "Hide My Email" system, one of the company's most popular services aimed at protecting users' personal data. Zamin.uz reported on this.
It has become known that due to this error, users' real email addresses are being exposed to third parties. This situation could seriously damage the Apple brand's reputation regarding security and privacy.
International technology publications provided detailed information about this problem. Cybersecurity expert Tyler Murphy identified this vulnerability and put it through practical testing.
In principle, this service was supposed to hide the user's real email and create temporary and random addresses instead. However, a malfunction in the system allows this protective shell to be easily bypassed.
The expert noted that he warned Apple about this problem a year ago. Despite this, the tech giant has not yet taken measures to eliminate this flaw.
During the experiments, it was possible to identify the real email addresses behind the hidden addresses in almost all cases. So far, the technical details of this vulnerability have not been fully disclosed to the public.
This was implemented from a security perspective, aimed at preventing malicious actors from using this information to organize mass attacks. The exposure of an email address makes it much easier to find other personal information of the user, including their home address and phone numbers.
This is not the first controversial case related to Apple's privacy promises. Previously, it was discovered that even when the analytical data collection function on iPhone smartphones was turned off, data continued to be sent to the company's servers.
Additionally, there are cases proving that the function to hide the network addresses of devices is also ineffective in practice. Considering the high number of Apple device and cloud service users among Uzbek users, it is currently not recommended to rely entirely on this function.
At a time when the company has built its marketing strategy specifically on privacy, such technical errors are bound to lower user trust. For now, users are advised to be cautious when registering on suspicious websites and to use additional methods to protect their personal data.
Apple is expected to fix this error through a system update in the near future.
