Many people are accustomed to starting their day with coffee, but interest in green tea is growing among advocates of a healthy lifestyle. What benefits does regular green tea consumption have, and how does this habit affect overall health?

According to research conducted in Japan, regular consumption of green tea instead of coffee reduces the incidence of dementia caused by white matter damage in the brains of elderly people, as reported by Daryo, citing The Telegraph.

While coffee has anti-inflammatory properties, it is not as beneficial in the long term as green tea. Green tea contains catechins that enhance its healing properties. Eighty percent of these antioxidants consist of a beneficial compound called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). They deactivate oxidants in the body before they can damage cells. Additionally, these compounds have an effect on regulating insulin production.

“Free radicals are considered molecules that can cause inflammation and harm to the body. The antioxidants in green tea serve to neutralize free radicals,” said dietitian Priya Tyu from the Dietitian UK center.

According to an article published in a Japanese scientific journal, the protective effect of green tea prevents the accumulation of harmful substances known as “amyloid β” in the brain. This substance is a key component found in the brains of individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

According to dietitian Priya Tyu, drinking one cup of green tea a day is not enough to reduce the risk of cognitive decline as one ages. Drinking 3-7 cups a day can provide significant benefits.

In addition to the aforementioned benefits of green tea, dietitian expert Rob Hobson noted the following information:

“Green tea also helps prevent heart diseases. According to studies conducted in 2022, there is scientific evidence that regular consumption of green tea can alleviate tachycardia, high blood pressure diseases, and reduce lipids.”
