Excess weight negatively affects children's learning

Excess weight can also affect children's success in mathematics. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to research, children who are overweight struggle more with mathematics compared to their peers. This issue was discussed at a meeting of the Scientific Council on the Sciences of Life under the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Experts noted that in overweight children, the connection between the gut and the brain, that is, the relationship between the microflora and the nervous system, is improperly formed. Leyla Namazova-Baranova, a specialist working in the Russian healthcare system, explained this condition by differences related to overeating.
According to her, the issue is not only about eating a lot and studying less, but also about how the internal systems of the body function. Researchers analyzed data on brain morphometry and found that in overweight children, the volume of white matter in the brain increases at the expense of gray matter.
This is considered a serious scientific problem. Scientists emphasize that this issue may affect not only children's health but also the intellectual potential of the country in the future.
However, this research does not fully prove cause and effect. A child's grades are also influenced by sleep, stress, physical activity, eating habits, and family environment.
Nevertheless, the main conclusion is clear: proper nutrition and physical activity are important not only for a child's appearance but also for brain function and academic achievements. Sometimes, to make a child successful, it is necessary to change their habits rather than use a calculator.
