From January to September 2025, 2.36 million citizens left Uzbekistan for labor migration to other countries. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This figure represents a 4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. This information was announced by Azizbek Hayitov, Deputy Director of the Payment Balance Department of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, at a conference on remittances organized by IFAD and the Central Bank.
The majority of the migration flow, that is 92 percent (2.2 million people), corresponds to three main countries. These countries are the primary destinations for temporary employment of Uzbek citizens.
At the same time, it can be observed that labor migration routes are gradually diversifying. A significant increase in the number of labor migrants has been recorded in some countries.
This is explained by the expansion of intergovernmental employment channels with countries such as Germany, Kuwait, France, South Korea, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Sweden. Experts provided recommendations to improve the financial stability of migrant workers' families and to reduce the costs of remittances.
Among other things, it was proposed to use remittances as an alternative income source when assessing creditworthiness. Additionally, joint programs by IFAD and the Central Bank are aimed at increasing financial literacy, planning expenses, and developing savings skills.
The growth of labor migration is increasing the volume of remittances, which play an important role in the country's economy. From January to October 2025, the volume of remittances received in Uzbekistan reached 15.8 billion US dollars, which is 25 percent more than last year.
Overall, by the end of 2025, the global volume of remittances is expected to reach 913 billion US dollars. (Source: zamin.uz)
