A new and innovative project for the development of digital infrastructure is being launched in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The project, implemented in cooperation between the Uzatom agency and Muroosystems Corporation, envisages the construction of a modern data center. The main feature of the project is that the data center will be fully powered by nuclear energy, specifically electricity generated by small modular reactors.
Within the framework of the project, a continuous power supply of 50 megawatts will be provided for the data center. It is known that today data centers are a key part of important sectors such as the internet, banking systems, cloud technologies, and artificial intelligence.
However, they require a continuous supply of large amounts of electricity. Therefore, traditional "green energy" sources, such as solar or wind energy, may not be sufficient in this regard.
Small modular reactors provide the possibility of stable and continuous energy production. This technology plays an important role in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of servers.
Small modular reactors are distinguished by their compactness and the possibility of being located close to the consumer. This allows the produced energy to be directed directly to the needs of the data center.
As a result, the most important factors for data centers — stability and continuity — are ensured. If the project is successfully implemented, small modular reactors will prove to be an effective solution not only for cities or industrial areas but also for high-tech facilities.
At the same time, in the future, the locations for building data centers are likely to be situated around energy sources. This project is seen as an important experience at the intersection of nuclear energy and digital infrastructure.
It demonstrates the possibility of turning internet infrastructure into a stable and engineering-precise system. Additionally, the project was agreed upon within the framework of international cooperation as a result of negotiations between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Japanese Prime Minister Sanaye Takaychi.
This further increases its strategic significance.
