
On December 26, 2025, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reviewed the results of the year and outlined important tasks for the coming period in his address to the Oliy Majlis and the people. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The meeting discussed the economic and social achievements attained in the country. In 2025, Uzbekistan's gross domestic product exceeded 145 billion dollars for the first time, export volume increased by 23 percent, gold and foreign currency reserves reached 60 billion dollars, and the poverty rate was reduced to 5.8 percent.
The President called 2026 “a decisive stage in building a New Uzbekistan.” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that the reforms implemented over the past nine years have impacted every neighborhood, family, and individual life.
He noted that democratic changes have continued in the country and a foundation for sustainable development has been established. Foreign investment volume reached 43.1 billion dollars, accounting for 31.9 percent of the gross domestic product.
International rating agencies upgraded Uzbekistan’s sovereign rating from “BB–” to “BB.” In the energy sector, electricity production reached 85 billion kilowatt-hours.
Significant achievements were also observed in the social sphere. In particular, 715 thousand people in 188 neighborhoods were provided with clean drinking water, and water supply for 2.3 million people was improved.
At the same time, 5 million citizens gained a stable source of income, resulting in the unemployment rate dropping to 4.9 percent. Important results were also achieved in poverty reduction.
1.5 million citizens were lifted out of poverty, and 1,435 neighborhoods became poverty-free areas. The new social support system helped 8.5 million people escape poverty.
The President paid attention to the achievements of youth in education, science, culture, and sports. In 2025, Uzbekistan hosted important events such as the Central Asia – European Union Summit and the International Climate Forum.
Additionally, a historic border agreement was signed between Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The President proposed declaring 2026 the “Year of Neighborhood and Society Development.”
Tasks were set to transform neighborhoods into centers of justice and education, launch the “Sustainable City” platform, and focus on six main directions – improving infrastructure, transitioning to technological and innovative economic growth, stimulating domestic demand, developing the labor market and vocational education, advancing ecology and green energy, and reforming public administration and the judicial system. Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the need to revise the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy and expressed confidence that high achievements can be reached through the unity of the people.
