Marriages between relatives are expected to be completely prohibited in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Significant changes to family legislation are planned in the country. According to the new draft law, marriage relations between close relatives will be restricted.
This prohibition will apply not only to direct relatives but also to individuals related through collateral lineage. The draft law stipulates the prohibition of marriages between relatives of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degrees.
Specifically, marriages between brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, and their nephews, as well as between cousins on the maternal and paternal sides, will be banned. However, as a special exception, if there is no blood relation between adopted or step-siblings, these restrictions will not apply to them.
At the same time, clear rules are being established regarding the marriage age. Only in special cases such as pregnancy or childbirth will the district or city mayor have the authority to lower the marriage age by one year.
However, engaging in family relations with a person under the marriage age will result in strict financial and legal liability. The fine may range from 20.6 million to 41.2 million soms, community service may last from 240 to 300 hours, or corrective labor may be assigned for up to 2 years.
