A radioactive waste center will be established in Uzbekistan

The government of Uzbekistan adopted resolution No. 47 on February 9, 2026. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to this resolution, a new center specializing in the safe storage of radioactive waste will be established in the country. This center will be built on the basis of the previously operating waste burial site under the Nuclear Physics Institute.
The new Republican radioactive waste storage center will be the sole state institution responsible for collecting radioactive waste across the country, transporting it with special vehicles, processing, sorting, and ensuring its long-term safe storage. The main tasks of the center include processing radioactive sources whose service life has expired, introducing innovative technologies, and developing modern methods for waste management.
Additionally, scientific research will be conducted in this field. The center's activities plan to extensively use digitalization and information technologies, as well as establish data exchange between government agencies.
This resolution is considered an important step towards ensuring environmental safety, responsible handling of industrial waste, and creating a system that complies with international safety standards. Source: zamin.uz
