Judges' asset disclosure is ensured

On February 12, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, listened to the report of the Supreme Council of Judges. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He put forward important initiatives aimed at ensuring justice and transparency in the judicial system. From now on, judges will be required to account not only before the law but also before the public regarding their assets.
One of the main proposals that attracted attention during the meeting was the introduction of a mandatory asset declaration system for judges and their family members. Additionally, a compliance control system will be established in the judicial system, where the recruitment process will be completely open and transparent.
It was emphasized that during the reporting period, strict measures were taken against those who committed violations in the judicial system. In particular, 19 judges were dismissed from their positions, 3 were held criminally liable, 58 were demoted, and 266 were subjected to disciplinary action.
Thirty-three judges who were nominated for the next term were found unfit and removed from the system. It was noted that a judge should engage only in fair adjudication, and based on foreign experience, the establishment of the "judicial administration" institution is planned.
This will relieve judges from material-technical support and other organizational tasks, which will enhance their independence and the quality of their work. Significant efforts are also being made to reduce external pressure on the judicial system.
The Prosecutor General's Office received five submissions regarding illegal interference in judicial activities. Moreover, over 200 orders issued by officials who gave illegal instructions to judges and assigned them unrelated tasks were canceled.
Attention is also being paid to ensuring gender equality within the system. In particular, special plans have been set for celebrating March 10 — International Women Judges Day.
Certain measures are being developed to increase the share of women. The main goal of these reforms, supported by the President, is to ensure that every citizen who applies to the court leaves confident in the presence of justice.
