The Senate debated a law on the protection of human rights.
At the regular session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, an important draft law aimed at further improving the country's legal system was considered. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This document, which provides for amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan, aims to bring the protection of human rights and freedoms to a new level. Moreover, the proposed amendments are intended to align the system of execution of criminal penalties with international standards and to enhance the effectiveness of probation services.

According to the innovations being introduced into the Criminal Code, the procedure for supervising citizens released on parole before the expiration of their sentence is now clearly defined. Currently, such individuals are required to report to the relevant state authorities at specified intervals for registration.

At the same time, special attention is being paid in legislation to the protection of individuals' rights. For example, a person released on conditional release has the right to apply directly to court, either personally or through a lawyer, to request the cancellation of their obligations.

The amendments to the Criminal-Procedural Code are aimed at further simplifying judicial procedures. Matters related to the revocation of conditional release are now to be examined by the district or city court in the area where the convicted person resides.

The new chapter introduced into the Criminal-Executive Code establishes firm mechanisms to regulate the legal status of persons under supervision, which is of significant importance in ensuring legality.

In accordance with humanitarian principles, efforts to improve the conditions of persons detained in correctional facilities have not been overlooked. Under the new rules, inmates are to be given the opportunity to walk outdoors for at least two hours on rest days and holidays.

Furthermore, their rights to additional clothing and footwear have been expanded. Most importantly, the amount of funds allocated for inmates to purchase food and essential items has been increased to at least one times the minimum wage.

As emphasized by the senators, this law will serve as an important factor in preventing violations in society and raising human dignity. These reforms will not only modernize the system of executing punishments but will also assist individuals deprived of liberty in adapting to social life.

Following the discussion, the members of the Senate unanimously approved the law.
