A new armed clash has started at the border of Thailand and Cambodia
A new armed clash began on July 24 near the Ta Moan Thom temple located at the border between Thailand and Cambodia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This incident has once again heightened tensions in the relations between the two countries. Thai officials stated that Cambodian soldiers launched reconnaissance drones in the border area and then fired using reactive systems.

Cambodia, on the other hand, reported that it responded in self-defense. Additionally, the Cambodian Ministry of Defense accused Thai troops of conducting an unjustified invasion and emphasized that their military response was justified.

As a result of clashes that occurred throughout the year, Thailand's F-16 fighter jets struck targets in Cambodia, damaging two military facilities. Cambodia stated that it had shown strong resistance against Thai soldiers.

As a result of these events, Thailand's education department temporarily closed all schools in the border area and activated emergency plans. Cambodia, in turn, restricted the supply of electricity, fuel, and internet access to Thailand.

These measures could negatively impact the social and economic life of both countries. The border disputes between Thailand and Cambodia have a long history, primarily occurring over unknown lands and sovereignty issues in an area of over 800 kilometers.

For example, in 2011, there were nearly a week of artillery shelling between the two countries. Particularly, the area of the Emerald Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos meet, is a constant center of dispute between the two sides.

Struggles for sovereignty over this area continue, and the situation remains under high risk. In the future, conflicts between military personnel, arrests, and an increase in casualties may further exacerbate the problems between the two countries.

This could lead to significant consequences for both Thailand and Cambodia, not only politically but also economically. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen communication and diplomatic efforts to ensure peace and stability between the parties.
