An explosion occurred in a multi-story residential building in Saratov, Russia, due to a domestic gas leak. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The incident took place on July 25 around 12:00 local time at house number 2 on Blinova Street in the Lenin district of the city. As a result of the explosion, four people died, one of whom was a child.
According to Saratov region governor Roman Busargin, a gas leak is being considered as the cause of the explosion. Technical issues, including a malfunctioning gas valve or improperly installed communications, may have led to the explosion.
The building is being thoroughly inspected, and deficiencies are being identified. The epicenter of the explosion is believed to have been in an apartment on the ninth floor.
The entrance corridor from the seventh to the tenth floor has collapsed. According to TASS agency, the section from the tenth to the fifth floor has been destroyed due to the powerful explosion.
According to some reports, the lower floors of the entrance have also suffered significant damage. So far, it is estimated that more than 30 apartments have been affected.
After the explosion, surrounding buildings on Blinova Street, passersby on the streets, and cars parked in the yard were damaged. More than 100 rescuers, dog handlers, and 34 units of equipment are working at the scene.
Emergency services are evacuating people, but there are concerns that there may be those trapped under the rubble. The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against organizations that violated safety requirements.
The Saratov region prosecutor's office has also initiated an investigation into the "explosion of a gas-air mixture in a multi-story building." This incident once again highlighted the importance of compliance with city construction standards, safety regulations, and energy supply system requirements.
