Historical agreement between the new government of Syria and the Kurds
The political situation in Syria continues to undergo drastic changes. On March 10, an agreement was signed between the country's new government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regarding the integration of civil and military institutions of the Kurdish autonomy in northeastern Syria into the Syrian government.

According to reports from the AFP agency, the agreement is planned to be implemented by the end of 2025. It outlines not only the control over border posts and airports but also the issues of overseeing oil and gas fields.

The new government in Syria and the fall of the Assad regime

It is known that Bashar Assad was overthrown in December 2024. The new government led by Ahmad al-Shar’a, which came to power, is trying to restore stability in the country and disband armed groups.

In this process, cooperation with the SDF is of great importance, as these military forces are mainly composed of Kurds and have long been operating as an independent authority in northeastern Syria.

Struggle continues with Assad supporters

At the time the agreement was signed with the SDF, fierce clashes were ongoing between Assad supporters and the new government forces in the western regions of Syria, predominantly inhabited by Alawites.

According to reports from human rights activists, nearly 1,500 people have died in the last four days due to military operations in the Latakia and Tartus provinces. Among them are civilians and Assad supporters.

Ahmad al-Shar’a, the acting president of Syria, commented on the situation, stating that Assad supporters have carried out terrorist acts and promised that all those responsible for harming civilians would be punished.

Will peace be restored in Syria?

The agreement signed with the SDF is, on one hand, a significant step for the new government from an economic and security perspective, as it allows the government to control oil and gas resources.

At the same time, military operations in western Syria may complicate the process of restoring stability in the country.

Analysts suggest that if the new government's forces can ensure full control in Syria, there may be an opportunity for political stability to be restored in the country. However, due to the activities of Assad supporters and other armed groups, this process may be prolonged.

Additionally, the international community is closely monitoring the events in Syria. The agreement signed with the SDF may have significant implications for regional security.

This agreement could be a political success for Syria's new government, but there are still significant challenges ahead for establishing real peace in the country.
