Artillery attacks continued early Sunday morning at the disputed border between Thailand and Cambodia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This incident occurred after U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with the leaders of both countries over the phone. After the conversation, a statement was made that both sides agreed to ceasefire, but the fighting did not stop.
Both sides are blaming each other for starting the conflict. Although Cambodia supported Trump's peace proposal, Thailand's acting Prime Minister Fumtam stated that negotiations would not take place until the attacks ceased.
According to him, Bangkok is in favor of holding negotiations at the level of foreign ministers of both countries to establish the terms of peace. Additionally, Thailand seeks to reach an agreement without the mediation of a third party.
The number of casualties in the four-day fighting has exceeded 30. Among them, there are 13 civilians in Thailand and 8 in Cambodia.
More than 200,000 people have been evacuated to safe areas in both countries. On Saturday, Donald Trump spoke with the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, urging them to hold an urgent meeting to achieve peace.
He wrote on social media that both sides are seeking peace. The U.S. government announced that it has suspended customs negotiations with both countries until the conflict is resolved peacefully.
