As a result of an airstrike carried out by Russian forces on a prison in the Zaporizhzhia region of southeastern Ukraine, at least sixteen people were killed and twenty were injured. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Ukrainian officials announced this on July 29. According to regional leader Ivan Fedorov, the nighttime airstrikes caused significant damage not only to the prison buildings but also to nearby residential areas.
Russia used high-explosive aerial bombs in the attack. Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, described these strikes as yet another military crime.
The Ukrainian human rights commissioner emphasized that the attack on detainees constitutes a gross violation of international humanitarian law. People in custody are not deprived of their right to life and protection.
At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Russia to cease fire. He stated that if an agreement is not reached within twelve days, new sanctions will be imposed.
Although Trump issued a fifty-day ultimatum against Russia at the beginning of July, this has not stopped Moscow's attacks. Currently, drone strikes by Ukraine have been carried out in southern Russian regions.
As a result of a drone attack in the city of Salsk in Rostov region, one person in a car was killed. In Belgorod region, another driver was killed, and his wife was injured.
These events further highlight the severity of the situation in the region and the importance of peace.
