The founder of the Telegram messenger, Pavel Durov, was interrogated for about ten hours in a courthouse located in Paris, France. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information provided by international media, this is the third interrogation that Durov has responded to since being summoned by investigative authorities in the summer of 2024. The interrogation process is related to suspicions of crimes being committed via the Telegram messenger by the French prosecutor's office.
French investigators suspect that the Telegram platform is being used as a tool for illegal activities, particularly in crimes such as drug trafficking, arms distribution, and human trafficking. Therefore, they are demanding explanations from Pavel Durov regarding how he manages the platform and protects user data.
Durov emphasized that ensuring the privacy of Telegram users is his primary responsibility, stating that the messenger is based on an encrypted and decentralized system, and therefore there is no possibility of monitoring users' conversations or providing them to government agencies. This incident has sparked widespread discussions globally.
Issues of information security and personal data protection have once again emerged as pressing topics. At the same time, various opinions are being expressed regarding the French government's pressure on digital platforms.
So far, no criminal case has been officially opened against Pavel Durov, but the investigation process is ongoing. New information regarding this case is expected to be released in the coming days.
