International food security experts under the auspices of the UN report that the worst situation regarding hunger is emerging in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification) report, the level of food insecurity and acute malnutrition in Gaza City has reached hunger thresholds. This situation poses a serious threat to the health of the population.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described this situation as a “humanitarian disaster unfolding before our eyes.” He emphasized that aid must be delivered not “drop by drop,” but “in waves.”
In March, a complete blockade on aid and trade shipments was announced by Israel, which is negatively affecting the lives of the population. Military actions continue, but due to pressures, the blockade has been partially eased.
Nevertheless, the shortage of food and medicines is increasing. Although the Israeli government claims there are no obstacles to aid delivery, the UN is rejecting this claim.
The people of Gaza report that aid is not reaching many areas, and in some places, people are dying from hunger. In July, it was reported that more than 60 children died due to hunger.
According to IPC data, more than 20,000 children were hospitalized due to acute malnutrition between April and July. Attacks on aid convoys, looting of humanitarian supplies, and selling them at inflated prices in markets are on the rise.
The Israeli government blames Hamas for such problems, but so far no concrete evidence has been found to support these claims. UN organizations are calling for extensive food aid to be provided before hunger is officially declared.
They believe that only stopping the fire will create the opportunity for aid delivery and is essential to save lives. It is crucial for the international community to take prompt and effective measures to alleviate the situation in the Gaza Strip.
