The genocide in Sudan was a stain on the history of humanity.
The image, taken in Sudan in 1998, shows one of the most heartbreaking famine tragedies in human history in all its gravity. Zamin.uz reported this.

This famous photograph was taken by renowned photographer Tom Stoddart and captures the struggle of humans for survival and the merciless scenes of that era. In the photo, a child is seen standing in a long queue for a very small amount of food aid.

The child was so weakened by hunger that his body had become nothing but bones and skin. According to the photographer's memory, the child was holding a metal bowl with a thin layer of porridge in his hand and could barely move on the ground.

As someone walked past the child, taking away his only meal, and quickly moved away. Stoddart managed to capture the endless hopelessness and helplessness in the child's eyes through his camera.

The child's gaze, watching the person who took away his food, showed the entire world how ordinary people were living in such horrific conditions at that time. During these events, Sudan was still in the midst of a merciless civil war.

Armed clashes between the central government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army had completely disrupted the country's economy and social life. Humanitarian aid for water and food products had also become impossible to deliver to areas where these resources had sharply decreased.

As the warring parties blocked humanitarian aid routes, the famine worsened. According to official data and estimates, in just the first half of 1998 alone, more than 50,000 people in Sudan died from hunger and disease.

This image became not only a child's tragedy, but also a symbol of the irreversible grief that wars bring upon humanity.
