On July 30, 2025, a strong earthquake occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This natural disaster, with a magnitude of 8.8, caused damage to several buildings, and some people were injured. In Japan, a tsunami warning was issued, and evacuation efforts began.
Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov described this earthquake as the strongest in the last decade. According to local officials, waves of 3-4 meters, that is, tsunamis, were generated along the Kamchatka shores as a result of the tremor.
Warnings were also sent to other countries in the Pacific region. Emergency measures were taken in Japan's coastal areas against the tsunami.
Evacuation efforts were carried out for some city residents to safe areas. The Fukushima nuclear power plant, which was the site of the atomic disaster in 2011, was also evacuated, but there is currently no information about significant damage or radiation spread.
Emergency measures were also taken in the Hawaiian Islands and along the U.S. Pacific coast. U.S. President Donald Trump urged people to prepare for the dangerous tsunami.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the waves caused damage to Kamchatka's ports and factories. A kindergarten was also damaged, but there were no mass casualties.
The health department reported that several people sought medical assistance. The Kamchatka region is located in the area known as the "Ring of Fire" of the Pacific Ocean, where strong earthquakes and volcanoes frequently occur.
The Russian Academy of Sciences considers this earthquake to be the strongest since 1952.
