On July 30, the strongest earthquake recorded in the last 73 years occurred in the Kamchatka Peninsula. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to RIA Novosti, the magnitude of the natural disaster reached 8.7. This earthquake poses a serious threat not only to the eastern regions of Russia but also to areas such as Japan, Hawaii, and Chile.
The epicenter of the earthquake is located in the Kamchatka region, causing damage to road transport infrastructure along with underground tremors. In particular, ceiling panels collapsed at the "Yelizovo" international airport, injuring passengers.
Many people were forced to urgently seek safety, for example, by taking shelter under tables. One woman was confirmed to have been injured on the head.
Experts emphasize that the seismic activity may continue for at least a month. For this reason, a tsunami warning has been issued in the Kuril Islands.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued warnings in its coastal areas. Additionally, Shinkansen high-speed trains in the northeast of the country were temporarily halted, and evacuations are taking place in some areas.
Warnings about tsunami threats were also sounded in Hawaii and Chile. Following the natural disaster, Uzbekistan's Consulate General in Vladivostok issued an official statement.
It was reported that there were no casualties among Uzbeks during the earthquake. At the same time, our compatriots in Kamchatka and Sakhalin were advised to strictly follow the instructions of local emergency services, maintain calm, and contact the Consulate General through the following phone numbers in case of need: +7 (423) 260-48-00 and +7 (902) 078-70-07.
The earthquake in Kamchatka has raised concerns not only among the local population but also within the global community. This event once again highlighted the need to strengthen preparedness for natural disasters, timely and accurate information dissemination, and ensuring human safety.
Experts indicate that there is a possibility of aftershocks. Therefore, local residents and tourists are urged to strictly adhere to safety measures and act based only on official information.
Currently, the damage caused by the earthquake, especially the losses to infrastructure, is being assessed. Reports have also emerged that "Aeroflot" and other airlines have temporarily suspended flights on this route.
The geoseismic activity observed worldwide serves as a reminder of humanity's vulnerability to nature. This earthquake in Kamchatka underscores the necessity of being constantly prepared for natural disasters.
