On July 31, an official day of mourning was declared in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in memory of the civilians who lost their lives as a result of a missile attack carried out by Russia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the State Emergency Service, a total of 31 people, including 5 children, lost their lives as a result of the strike, and 159 others were injured. This attack was noted as one of the bloodiest strikes on Kyiv since 2022.
The Ukrainian government demanded an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council. President Vladimir Zelensky condemned the military crimes committed by Russia on social media, emphasizing the need to never forget and never forgive these attacks.
He expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin did not directly comment on this incident during a press conference held on Valaam Island, but noted the necessity of stopping military actions in Ukraine and ensuring lasting peace.
Putin also stated the need to develop acceptable arrangements that guarantee the security of Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky called on the international community to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
According to him, in July, Russia sent more than 5,100 air bombs, over 3,800 "Shaheed" drones, and nearly 260 missiles, including 128 ballistic missiles, to Ukrainian territory. The president also reiterated that if Russia's statements are not meant to delay time or postpone sanctions, but rather a sign of readiness for genuine peace, Ukrainian leaders are ready for a meeting.
It should be noted that the three rounds of negotiations held this month in Istanbul between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations only reached an agreement on the exchange of military prisoners, while no concrete agreements were reached on other important issues.
