A large oil depot located near the city of Sochi on the Black Sea coast of Russia has caught fire. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Local officials stated that the fire was caused by a drone launched from Ukraine. As a result of the fire, Sochi International Airport temporarily suspended its operations.
Krasnodar region governor Veniamin Kondratyev announced that a drone fragment fell into a fuel storage tank, causing the fire, and that 127 firefighters were working at the scene. Meanwhile, the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine was hit by a missile attack from Russia.
Local officials reported that homes and civilian infrastructure were damaged as a result of the attack, and at least seven civilians were injured. The Ukrainian Emergency Service confirmed that three people were hospitalized.
The attack on the oil depot in Sochi is one of a series of drone strikes carried out by Ukraine during this week. Attacks also occurred in southern Russian cities such as Ryazan, Penza, and Voronezh.
The governor of Voronezh reported that four people were injured as a result of the drone attack. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 93 drones launched from Ukraine were detected last night, of which 60 were destroyed in the Black Sea region.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 83 or 76 drones and seven missiles, of which 61 were shot down. Nevertheless, 16 drones and 6 missiles struck eight points in Ukrainian territory.
Last week, a missile attack in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv resulted in at least 31 deaths. This incident is considered one of the deadliest attacks on the city since the war began in February 2022.
Due to the escalating situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the international community to impose stricter sanctions against Russia. U.S. President Donald Trump condemned Russia's actions and issued a statement regarding new sanctions.
In July, Trump had given Russia an ultimatum to cease hostilities within 50 days. Otherwise, it was emphasized that severe tariffs would be imposed on Russia's oil exports.
Today, he shortened this deadline to 10-12 days, setting a new deadline of August 8. These events further demonstrate the high military activity in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and the significant danger to civilians.
