A wild fox that had survived on Ogoy Island located in Lake Baikal, Russia, has been returned to nature. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This event once again demonstrated the strong connection between humans and nature conservation. As a result of a special operation carried out by specialists from the Pribaykal National Park in Irkutsk region and city veterinarians, the fox was released back into nature in a healthy condition.
This was reported by the Pravilamag publication and the "Baykalych PRO Baikal" Telegram channel. The fate of the fox attracted public attention.
More than 150 requests were received by the national park administration, and people asked not to leave it alone. The fox lived on Ogoy Island like Robinson Crusoe.
It was not a large wild animal, but it hunted Olkhon voles. It also demanded food from tourists who came to the island.
After undergoing a veterinary examination, it was found that the fox was healthy, well-fed, and a young mother. Specialists took it to the mainland and released it into the Yelansinski forest massif within the national park area.
Now, the fox is expected to regain its ability to hunt in the wild and stop obtaining food from humans. According to specialists, the fox likely crossed over to the island during the winter when Lake Baikal was frozen and could not return in spring when the ice melted.
This situation served as a reminder of how natural conditions can affect the lives of wild animals.
