The fight against corruption in Russia has reached a new level. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Since the beginning of 2025, criminal investigations have been initiated against at least 99 deputies and high-ranking officials in the country for bribery and abuse of power. This figure is approaching the 122 cases recorded in 2024 and has doubled compared to 2021.
Novaya Gazeta's European analysis included the number of criminal cases against heads of federal and regional ministries, agencies, their deputies, as well as mayors and assistants of regional centers. According to the obtained data, an average of 14 new criminal cases are initiated each month.
Journalists only studied the accusations made against deputies and officials of state agencies. Heads of state-owned enterprises and institutions were not included in this statistics.
In particular, the number of criminal cases opened against law enforcement officers constitutes 28 percent of all cases. The construction and housing utilities sector accounts for 18 percent, the economy and industry 11 percent, while the transport and environmental management sectors each have an 8 percent share.
The dynamics of the imprisonment of high-ranking officials over the last 10.5 years was also studied. It was revealed that almost half of these arrests occurred within the last 3.5 years since the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine began.
Moreover, cases of the imprisonment of ministers, department heads, and their deputies have also been higher compared to the pre-war period. The current situation indicates that the fight against corruption in Russia is becoming more serious.
Investigations against state agencies and high-level officials are being closely monitored by the public and international observers. We will continue to closely monitor any changes in this area in the near future.
