European countries and Ukrainian officials presented a plan to the government of the United States aimed at ending the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to sources from The Wall Street Journal, Kyiv and European countries propose to see a ceasefire as the first step. They emphasize that any exchange on territorial issues should be carried out only on the basis of mutual agreement.
If Ukraine agrees to withdraw from certain territories, it was stated that Russia must also withdraw from the territories under its control. According to the plan, if Ukraine agrees to territorial concessions or compromises, it will be provided with strict security guarantees.
Among these guarantees, the possibility of the country joining NATO is also considered. European leaders' aides presented this plan to US representatives during negotiations held in the UK on August 9.
US Vice President James Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as the President's special representatives Kit Kellog and Steven Witkoff participated in the negotiations. According to the publication, European and Ukrainian representatives outlined the "red lines" that need to be taken into account in negotiations with Russia in the document.
They believe that the fate of Ukraine should only be discussed with Ukraine's participation. Additionally, agreements reached between Russia and the US may lose significance without the participation of European countries.
This was stated by a senior European official. Earlier, it was reported that the ceasefire plan developed by the US had also been conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to WSJ, Putin demanded the complete transfer of the Donetsk region from Ukraine to Russia. After that, Russia proposed to "freeze" the front line in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky firmly stated in a statement on August 9 that the country would not give its territories to Russia. According to him, Ukraine will never surrender its territories to the hands of the invader.
