Zelenskiy opposed stopping the war through the 'Berlin model'
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky spoke on the phone with former U.S. President and potential future candidate Donald Trump on March 19. During the conversation, Zelensky discussed the conflict in Ukraine and ways to resolve it, according to The Moscow Times.

Zelensky against territorial division

While talking to Trump, the Ukrainian president made it clear that he does not support the proposal to end the war along the current line of confrontation. “There are territories, cities, and towns that are crossed by various lines of communication. If we leave these lines, they will turn into lifeless areas,” Zelensky said. He compared the situation to the Berlin Wall, asking, “Do we want new Berlins?”

Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant issue

During the conversation, Zelensky also mentioned discussing the possibility of handing over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under Russian control, to the U.S. According to him, if Washington agrees to modernize the plant and provide it with technical specialists, Kyiv is ready to reach an agreement on this matter.

Efforts to protect Ukraine's territorial integrity

Zelensky stated that he told Donald Trump that Ukraine would do everything in its power to maintain its territorial integrity. “We will protect Ukraine in this matter as much as possible. However, this will be a very complicated process for us,” the president said.

He also mentioned the existence of countries that could potentially deploy their military in Ukraine. “There are those who are ready to be on the border and those who want to be deployed in dangerous areas. We need to develop a common vision,” Zelensky said.

Conversation between Trump and Putin

Interestingly, Donald Trump also communicated with Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 18. The conversation with Zelensky took place on March 19. This has led to various speculations regarding the future political position of the U.S.
