Fox News channel released an interview with US President Donald Trump following his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky and European Union leaders. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In this conversation, Trump shared his thoughts on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the upcoming negotiations. Trump announced that he does not plan to participate in the possible first meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
He emphasized that if the meeting is successful, there is a possibility of holding trilateral negotiations. The American president noted that Russia, especially Putin, opposes Ukraine joining NATO.
He reminded that the USSR and Russia do not want NATO to be close to their borders. He also considered the return of Crimea to Ukraine practically impossible.
Trump said that during his presidency, he was against deploying American troops in Ukraine. However, he stressed that if European countries, particularly France, Britain, and Germany, decide to send their troops to Ukraine, it would not pose a major problem for Russia.
Speaking about Putin, Trump expressed hope that he will take responsibility and act properly. He emphasized that if this does not happen, the situation could become more complicated.
He said that Zelensky needs to be flexible. During the meeting at the White House, European leaders indicated their readiness to offer territorial compromises to Ukraine.
This process may lead to territorial losses for Ukraine. Regarding Russia and Putin's position, Trump noted that the Russian president considers communicating by phone in front of Europe as disrespectful to himself.
In his opinion, Russia is a strong military power and maintains its position in the geopolitical arena. He also does not believe that establishing peace with Russia will be difficult.
Putin is tired of the war, and all parties are tired of this situation, but clear results will be shown by time, he emphasized. Trump also mentioned the possibility that Putin may not reach an agreement.
A definite conclusion on this will be known in the coming weeks.
