South Korean border guards fired a warning shot when North Korean soldiers briefly crossed the border line. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The incident occurred earlier this week in the demilitarized zone. The demilitarized zone is a neutral area where the armies of the two countries are not stationed.
According to official information, North Korean soldiers crossed the line while conducting work at the border and then returned back. South Korean military fired more than ten warning shots to stop them.
North Korea called this incident a provocation and accused South Korea of escalating tensions. Pyongyang warned that the situation could get out of control.
This incident happened during the days when South Korea's new president Lee Jae-myung was on a foreign trip. At the same time, North Korea continues efforts to completely close the border area.
Although the two Koreas ended the war in 1953, they have not signed a peace treaty. Therefore, technically they are still considered to be in a state of war, and such incidents can further increase tensions in the region.
