Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met in Tokyo and reached an agreement to strengthen security and economic cooperation. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This meeting marks Lee Jae-myung's first visit to Japan since being elected president in June. Within the framework of a trilateral agreement, the parties agreed to deepen cooperation with the United States, and to develop joint projects in defense, economic security, and artificial intelligence sectors.
Additionally, issues related to expanding youth exchange programs were discussed. Both countries emphasized the necessity of joint action against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.
Previously critical of Japan, Lee Jae-myung expressed his support for improving relations during the Tokyo talks. Furthermore, President Lee is scheduled to visit Washington on August 25 to meet with the U.S. president.
The meeting is also expected to address security issues concerning China and North Korea, as well as financial contributions for U.S. troops stationed in South Korea. This meeting serves to ensure regional stability and strengthen cooperation.
