A new coronavirus strain — Stratus detected in Russia

Official information has been released about the detection of a new type of coronavirus in the territory of the Russian Federation — the XFG “Stratus” strain. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to information distributed by Rospotrebnadzor, 114 cases of infection with this strain have been recorded across the country. 54 percent of the detected cases correspond to the city of Moscow.

The remaining infections have mainly been registered in the Magadan, Sverdlovsk, and Leningrad regions. Globally, the “Stratus” strain was first identified on January 27, 2025, in Canada.

In Russia, the first case was recorded and officially registered on April 24, 2025. Representatives of the relevant authorities emphasize that the new strain is highly contagious and can spread rapidly.

However, it usually manifests in a mild form and does not cause severe complications. Doctors indicate hoarseness of voice and mild symptoms as signs of the virus.

This strain shares similarities with the previous “Omicron” strain. Epidemiologists advise the public to remain vigilant, follow preventive measures, and undergo medical examination when necessary.

According to officials, although the “Stratus” strain does not pose a major threat, preventing its widespread transmission is important. Therefore, attention should be paid to measures protecting public health.
