A very severe and legally unacceptable incident occurred in Greater Noida city, Uttar Pradesh state of India. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A 28-year-old woman named Nikki Payla was burned alive by her husband. This tragedy took place on August 21, and her 6-year-old son, who witnessed the event, was also present.
The main reason cited is the husband's constant demand for expensive gifts. Nikki Payla and her family had been subjected to violence since 2016.
According to family members, Payla and her sister Bhati had been given various expensive gifts by the family, including a "Scorpio" car, a Royal Enfield motorcycle, and gold jewelry. Unfortunately, thousands of women in India face violence from their husbands and their families every year, many of whom lose their lives.
Many cases do not even reach official authorities. During the court investigation, the husband Vipin Bhati did not admit guilt and claimed to be innocent.
The police accused his mother of physical and mental abuse against Nikki and arrested her. During the investigation, Vipin's father Satya Vir and brother Rohit Bhati were also detained.
According to police information, the woman was set on fire with a highly flammable substance. She was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi with severe burn injuries but died after prolonged treatment.
The deceased's sister Kanchan shared details of the incident on social media and assisted the investigation. Police officer Dharmendra Shukla stated that the sister filed a complaint and a case was opened to hold the husband and his family criminally responsible.
This tragedy is significant not only locally but also for society as a whole. Society calls on the youth to respect moral values, stand against violence, and emphasizes the need to enhance social support and culture to prevent such incidents.
