In response to a warning issued by India, Pakistan evacuated more than 150,000 people due to the risk of rising river levels caused by monsoon rains. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The evacuation was mainly carried out in the Punjab province, as this area has a high population density. According to Reuters agency, this marks the first bilateral communication following border issues between Pakistan and India.
Additionally, there are some disputes and representation issues in the political relations between the two countries. Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized India's flood risk warning and emphasized that it was not issued through diplomatic channels.
According to Ministry spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, this information was conveyed through unofficial channels rather than the India-related Water Resources Commission, which may violate international agreements. This situation serves to further clarify water resource-related problems between Pakistan and India.
This incident increases the necessity to strengthen agreements on water distribution and management between the two countries. Pakistan and India need to enhance cooperation on water issues to ensure regional stability and security.
