Russian President Vladimir Putin's planned visit to China at the end of August has sparked serious debates in the European political arena. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The trip, scheduled from August 31 to September 3, was expected to include high-level talks and participation in ceremonial events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. However, European leaders and diplomats refused to visit Beijing.
According to the famous military expert Yakov Kedmi, this situation clearly shows how nervous Europe has become towards Russia. In his opinion, hearing Putin's name triggers a response in the European Union similar to the "Pavlovian reflex."
That is, regardless of the reasons, they express strong and negative reactions towards Putin. The expert explains this attitude as fear of Russia.
European countries understand Moscow's strength well and are making sharp moves precisely to conceal this fear. Kedmi also emphasized that the decision not to participate in the parade in China could lead to long-term negative consequences for Europe.
Beijing attaches great importance to this event and it is not unlikely that it will perceive such a boycott as an insult. According to him, the Chinese have a good memory and do not easily forget such behavior.
The expert believes that if French President Emmanuel Macron, or leaders of the United Kingdom or Germany do not attend the parade, it may not be a major problem for Beijing. However, relations between Europe and China will further cool down.
Additionally, Kedmi mentioned the possibility of an unexpected turn. If former US President Donald Trump participates in the parade, it will create an even more difficult situation for Europe.
This is because the parade celebrates the victory over Japan in World War II, in which the Soviet Union also participated. Trump, on the other hand, likes military parades.
Thus, the European leaders' refusal to visit Beijing can be regarded as a diplomatic failure. Russia, meanwhile, will be able to effectively use this situation to further strengthen relations with China.
