According to the State Committee for National Security Border Service of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbek border guards were forced to use weapons against two individuals who did not comply with the demand. According to the information, on August 25, a report was received about two citizens missing in the Ayg‘ir-Jal village of Chotqol district.
During the search operations, at a meeting held on August 28, Uzbek border guards reported that on August 15, two unknown persons were identified in their territory. The official statement said that these individuals did not comply with the border guards' demand to stop.
As a result, the border guards were forced to use weapons, and two citizens died from gunshot wounds. On August 31, the relatives of the missing persons went to Uzbekistan and identified the deceased.
On September 1, the bodies were handed over to the Kyrgyz side through the "Baymak" checkpoint and sent to the morgue in the city of Kerben for examination. Additionally, the heads of the Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan border services agreed to conduct a joint investigation on-site starting from September 2.
The Uzbek side expressed readiness to return the property of the deceased — three horses and a yurt — to Kyrgyzstan. Officials emphasized that this incident once again highlighted the need to strengthen security at the border and prevent such unfortunate events in the future.
