With the start of the new school year in Ukraine, thousands of children have begun studying in underground schools to ensure safety. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In the city of Kharkiv, due to attacks carried out by Russia, seven modern underground schools are operating in various parts of the city. Approximately seventeen thousand students are studying in these schools.
According to the Reuters news agency, this initiative is being implemented in the districts of the city that have suffered the most damage and are in need of peace. The city administration plans to increase the number of underground schools in the near future.
According to Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, three more schools will be opened soon, and six metro stations in the city have been converted into classrooms. About one thousand five hundred students are studying in two schools in the Nova Saltivka district.
Due to safety and a peaceful environment, parents trust these institutions. Anastasiya Pochergina, a parent from Kharkiv, said that her daughter started first grade and feels calm because of the underground school's safety, but she also expressed a wish for her child to attend a regular school.
Six-year-old Mariya Yampolskaya announced that she started first grade and mentioned that she could not attend kindergarten due to the war. Thus, the new school year for children affected by the war has begun in underground schools in a safe and peaceful environment.
