Hundreds of women dressed in pink clothing and holding brooms protested in front of the parliament building in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
They expressed their dissatisfaction with the wasteful spending of state funds and police brutality. The broom was used as a symbol for them to "sweep away the dirt in the country."
The protests have been ongoing for two weeks and are known to have started against the rising cost of living and excessive privileges of deputies. According to official data, at least ten people died and more than a thousand were hospitalized during the protests that erupted at the end of August.
Although President Prabowo Subianto initially announced the cancellation of his trip to China, it was later revealed that he participated in a military parade held in Beijing. He promised to reduce some privileges of the deputies, but protesters consider this measure insufficient.
The United Nations and human rights organizations have criticized the Indonesian government for responding to the protests with violence. Experts emphasize that the population is expecting broader reforms – equality, education, agriculture, and fair economic opportunities.
