A unique and complex surgical operation was successfully performed in the history of medicine in India. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At a hospital located in Gurgaon city of Haryana state, a one-month-old baby underwent surgery to remove two undeveloped fetuses from its abdomen. This was reported by The Times of India.
This condition is called "fetus in fetu" in medicine and is very rare, occurring in one out of every 500,000 pregnancies. Usually, this anomaly occurs in the early weeks of pregnancy: one of the twins does not fully develop and becomes enclosed within the other fetus.
According to doctors, the baby's mother was expecting triplets, but during the pregnancy, one fetus absorbed the other two. Twenty days after birth, the baby was brought to the hospital due to abdominal swelling and cessation of feeding.
Examination revealed tumor-like structures compressing the baby's stomach. During surgery, it was found that these structures were undeveloped embryos.
Fifteen qualified doctors participated in the operation. During the complex two-hour surgery, special care was taken to avoid damaging the baby's internal organs.
One of the doctors emphasized that this case was very rare and that performing such a complex operation with precision on such a small organism was difficult. According to specialists, the baby quickly recovered after the surgery and is currently in stable condition.
This case is considered a major achievement in the field of medicine.
