The Finnish government has recently intensified strict measures against citizens coming from Russia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Since the war in Ukraine began, many Russians who fled to this country have been mass deported. According to official data, from January to September 2024, 104 Russians were expelled from Finnish territory.
The main reason cited is the rejection of their asylum applications. According to Russian activist Maksim Aliyev, the majority of those who applied for asylum over two years were not even called for an interview.
Starting from the end of 2024, interview processes began, and nearly 90 percent of applications were rejected. Some Russians dissatisfied with this decision have appealed to the court or reapplied for asylum.
The Finnish Migration Service does not consider evading mobilization in Russia as a sufficient reason, since according to official information, mobilization has ended. For this reason, some citizens have been forcibly deported.
In the first eight months of 2025, 18 people were deported. They usually left Finland via Turkey or Estonia, while direct borders with Russia remain closed.
At the same time, there are those who have succeeded in obtaining asylum. They are mainly individuals who opposed the decisions of the Russian government or faced political persecution.
Experts believe that this situation may lead European countries to strengthen strict and firm directions in their migration policies.
