New restrictions have been imposed on the activities of media outlets and social networks in Turkey. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to foreign mass media sources, significant problems occurred when accessing popular online platforms during protests in Istanbul. On September 7, around 20:45, disruptions began in connecting to social networks and messengers such as X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp.
Users reported limitations in using these services and that they were operating slowly. Experts believe these restrictions may have been implemented by the Turkish Internet Providers Association, although no official statement has been issued by the organization so far.
According to local journalists, the restrictions on access to social networks are related to political events. It was revealed that the restrictions were introduced after police set up barricades in front of the Republican People's Party headquarters in Istanbul.
As a result, party activists and supporters called on the public to participate in mass rallies. Consequently, to prevent the rapid spread of calls and video recordings distributed through social networks, the operation of online platforms was limited.
This situation is being assessed as measures taken to maintain public order and control the political situation.
