The Israeli Supreme Court concluded that the government is not providing Palestinian prisoners with necessary and quality food. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to The Guardian, the judges believe that the food provided to the prisoners does not meet the standards set by law, which is insufficient to maintain their health and meet their basic needs. Therefore, it was emphasized that the Israeli Prison Service – Shabas – must take the necessary measures to supply Palestinian prisoners with food in the required quantity and quality.
This decision was made in response to a petition submitted to the court last year by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) and the Gisha human rights group. The petition claimed that Palestinian prisoners in prisons were facing hunger and food shortages.
However, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel's Minister of National Security responsible for the country's correctional institutions, strongly criticized the court ruling, calling it "protecting terrorists from the HAMAS movement." This statement openly revealed the controversial issues in the country's politics and prison system.
Following the court decision, the prison service is expected to implement new measures to improve and monitor the provision of food to prisoners. Experts emphasize that this decision is of great importance in ensuring human rights and the welfare of prisoners.
