In the United Kingdom, the court sentenced former vascular surgeon Neil Hopper to 32 months in prison. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He cut off his own legs and obtained over £466,000 in compensation by defrauding an insurance company. It was revealed that in April 2019, Hopper froze his legs using dry ice and later amputated them.
He linked this action to sexual desire, stating it was his long-hidden dream. Hopper provided false information to the insurance company, claiming the amputation was due to sepsis.
He spent the money on a camper van, hot tub, stove, and various other projects. The court also found him guilty of fraud and possessing excessively pornographic material on an illegal website.
Law enforcement identified Hopper in connection with the case of Marius Gustavson, who posted illegal content and organized extreme body modification surgeries. Gustavson was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2024 for removing male genitalia and performing other dangerous surgical procedures.
In March 2023, Hopper was suspended from his job in the UK healthcare system and later deregistered from the medical register. Shortly after, his wife filed for divorce.
This incident highlights the serious consequences of fraud in the medical field and insurance system.
