Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has offered Russian leader Vladimir Putin to hold negotiations in the city of Kyiv. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He announced this in an interview with ABC News. According to Zelenskiy, Putin's proposal to organize a meeting in Moscow is mainly a tactic aimed at delaying time.
According to the president, he is not ready to go to Moscow while the country is under missile strikes and military attacks. He emphasized, “I will not set foot in the capital of terrorists.”
Zelenskiy also said that it was unfortunate not to participate in the previously planned meeting in Alaska. According to him, Putin achieved results aligned with his goals during the meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Ukrainian leader also stressed the need for additional economic and political pressure against Russia. He criticized some partners for continuing to purchase Russian oil and gas.
According to Zelenskiy, Russia's main weapon is energy resources, and stopping their purchase is the most effective measure. Zelenskiy also paid attention to the issue of security guarantees.
He stated that the country's defense can only be ensured by the national army. He noted that Ukrainian forces have strong positions in Donbass and emphasized that Russia will be forced to make heavy sacrifices to fully capture this territory.
Zelenskiy called the idea of creating a “buffer zone” a big mistake, as there are currently “death zones” of 10-20 kilometers in practice. According to him, Putin is avoiding direct meetings with Ukraine and is putting forward unacceptable proposals, which is a politically bad step.
