After coming to power, US President Donald Trump signed his 200th executive order. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to this order, it was proposed to change the name of the "Department of Defense" to the "Department of War." This decision is considered an important political victory for Trump and his team.
However, for the order to take full effect, approval from the US Congress is required, which is unlikely. Due to difficulties in reaching an agreement between the two parties in Congress on this issue, the official renaming is improbable.
Nevertheless, Trump is informally supporting this change. In his opinion, words carry great power, and shifting from "defense" to "war" will serve to strengthen the US's position on the global stage.
Historically, after gaining independence, the US Department of Defense actually operated under the name "Department of War." This name was changed in 1947.
Today, Trump and his supporters want to restore this name. This reflects the US's desire to have a firmer and stronger position in global competition.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the world transitioned to multipolarity. China is viewed as a strategic rival to the US.
Additionally, Russia, the European Union, and India are also considered key participants in global multipolarity. On September 3, China held a large military parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
During the parade, China showcased its most modern weapons. While in previous years China purchased much of its military equipment from Russia, today it is independently developing its military capabilities and has become a producer of modern weapons.
At the parade, China displayed various missiles, drones, robots, and laser weapons. These weapons are intended for future wars and were received with great attention by experts and politicians.
However, many of the displayed weapons have not yet been tested in real combat. Similarly, the weapons shown at Russia’s May 9 parades did not deliver the expected results in the subsequent Russia-Ukraine war.
This situation raises questions about the effectiveness of modern military technology and combat experience. One of the most significant events at China’s military parade was its open declaration of possessing a nuclear triad.
This was perceived as a signal aimed at further increasing China’s strategic power. Against the backdrop of Trump’s initiative to rename the "Department of Defense" to the "Department of War" and China’s military demonstrations, the global arms race is intensifying.
In this process, multipolarity in the world is strengthening. Particularly, the Central Asian region, located at the heart of the Eurasian continent, holds geopolitical importance.
Therefore, Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries must ensure long-term stability by strengthening integration, unity, and solidarity. In the context of competition and an arms race among major powers, the effective functioning of international law is crucial, but regional countries should also strengthen cooperation to secure a stronger position.
