According to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, the current relations between Russia and Armenia are no longer at the "brotherly" level as before, but are being formed on the basis of equal partnership. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He emphasized that the current relations are a direct cooperation relationship, with Russia now viewing Armenia not as a brother but as a partner. Significant achievements have been made in this cooperation over the past four years.
According to the president, Yerevan wants Russia to fully respect the independent decisions made by the Armenian government. He also responded to the statement by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk that Armenia must choose between the Eurasian Economic Union or the European Union.
Khachaturyan stressed the need to clarify the meaning of these words. The Armenian leader said that the country operates under the conditions set within the Eurasian Economic Union while simultaneously working on agreements in the economic sphere with the European Union.
So far, no problems have arisen in these directions. From these statements, it can be understood that Yerevan aims to maintain an independent course in foreign policy and to develop economic relations with both Russia and Europe in a balanced manner.
