It has been confirmed that the missile that fell on a house in the village of Viriki-Vola in eastern Poland belongs to an F-16 aircraft. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Rzeczpospolita publication, initially it was believed that the damage to the house, caused when Russian drones violated the airspace, was from drone debris. However, it turned out that an air-to-air missile fired from Poland's F-16 fighter jet had fallen there. The source emphasized that during the flight, a technical malfunction occurred in the missile's guidance system, causing it to malfunction.
This was revealed in an interview with a source from security agencies. The Lublin prosecutor's office did not provide open information about the incident and referred to the crashed object as an unidentified flying device.
However, it is said that the prosecutor's office has complete information about the event. With the help of experts, 17 drone debris pieces were identified, but no official comment was made about the object that fell in the Viriki area.
The prosecutor's statement noted that this device has not been confirmed as either a drone or its parts. The agency's press secretary, Agnieszka Kempka, stated that the investigation is ongoing and that official expert reports are needed for definitive conclusions.
According to the Rzeczpospolita source, the missile that fell on the house belongs to the AIM-120 AMRAAM category, weighing over 150 kilograms and nearly three meters in length. Since the warhead did not activate, a strong explosion did not occur because the safety systems were triggered.
Nevertheless, the damage to the house was significant. This incident sparked widespread discussions among the Polish public.
The reason is that the event occurred against the backdrop of Russian drones violating the airspace, raising questions about the effectiveness of NATO's air defense system. In the future, this incident may prompt Poland to further strengthen its security measures.
