The Lycian people have lived on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey since ancient times. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Currently, this region is famous as the "Lycian Way" and is known for its ancient castles and tombstones. The Lycian people created their own independent political system and held a unique place in history.
The Lycian League, established in the 2nd century BC, united twenty-three cities. In this league, large cities had three votes, medium cities had two votes, and small cities had one vote.
Each city had the right to elect its leader and collect taxes. At the Constitutional Convention of the United States in 1787, James Madison cited the Lycian League as an example of a fair representative system.
This system later influenced the formation of the US Constitution. Today, the ruins of Xanthos and Patara stand as witnesses to Lycian culture.
Most importantly, the political idea created by the Lycian people made a significant contribution to the development of world democracy.
