The US once again rejected a resolution at the UN Security Council demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The other 14 countries approved the document. US representative Morgan Ortagus emphasized that the text did not explicitly condemn Hamas and did not recognize Israel's right to self-defense.
The resolution described the situation in Gaza as "tragic" and called for the lifting of restrictions imposed on Israel. However, the US opposition was met with disapproval by other countries.
Palestinian representative Riyad Mansour called the resolution "regrettable." Representatives from Pakistan and Algeria also expressed dissatisfaction with the resolution and apologized to the Palestinians.
In their view, this resolution hinders the Council from fulfilling its primary responsibilities. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue their attacks in Gaza.
The UN humanitarian agency described the situation as "catastrophic." According to local sources, more than 65,000 people have died since October 2023.
This situation indicates a deepening humanitarian disaster in the region. Joint efforts by the international community are crucial to ensure peace and stability.
