Mass protests have intensified in the Philippines as a result of a serious corruption scandal. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Thousands of people attacked government buildings to express their discontent over reports that allocated funds had disappeared and that aid was not provided to those affected by floods. Protesters, students, and ordinary citizens did not want to remain silent in the face of such government injustice.
They took to the streets, raised noise, set car tires on fire, and clashed with the police using stones and glass objects. As a result of these clashes, more than 40 police officers were injured, and 17 people were detained.
According to government officials, the finance minister had previously announced that $17.6 billion from the budget was missing and that 70 percent of the funds allocated for infrastructure were not spent on their intended purposes. These incidents once again highlight the importance of fighting corruption in the country.
The government and the public must work together to take measures to resolve this issue.
