"How much blood will be shed?" — thousands of Israelis are demanding the government to stop the war in Gaza
On April 7, Monday, the center of Tel Aviv was once again under political distress — thousands of protesters took to the streets. They demanded the government to reach an agreement with the Hamas movement and to free the Israelis who have been held captive in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
Opposition to the war: fear in the hearts, hope in the souls
Most of the protesters expressed strong opposition to continuing the war. Their placards read:
- "How much blood will be shed?",
- "Stop the war",
- "We want peace".
Many of the protesters were family members, relatives, and supporters of the captives, asking U.S. President Donald Trump to mediate in ending the war. They made this call specifically during Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington.
Is trust in the government fading?
The protesters' grievances were not limited to the war. They also opposed the decision to dismiss Ronen Bar, the head of the Israeli security service (SHABAK). The special service is currently investigating Netanyahu's close associates and illegal connections with Qatar. For this reason, the Supreme Court (BAGATS) temporarily prohibited Bar's dismissal — the court session is scheduled for April 8.
The situation in Gaza is escalating again
The Israeli government resumed airstrikes on Gaza on March 18. Following that, a ground operation was also reinstated on March 19. According to official statements, the main goal of such pressure is to free the citizens held captive.
However, people are tired of this solution. They need peace. They need either decisive actions or real diplomacy. That is why protests in the streets of Tel Aviv continue — the people are making their voices heard.
