Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas announced that HAMAS will not be granted authority in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by the TASS news agency. According to Abbas, the Palestinian National Authority has no claim to HAMAS's rule in the Gaza Strip and does not recognize their decisions.
Speaking at the international conference on peaceful resolution of the Middle East held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Abbas emphasized the importance of recognizing the legitimate authority of the Palestinian National Authority in Gaza and other territories. He stated that HAMAS, like other groups, must disarm and operate only within the framework of Palestine's legitimate security forces.
Mahmud Abbas stressed that the national authority is striving to establish such order, aiming to form a unified state and control all security systems. In his view, only a state governed by law and developed through peaceful means can serve to protect human rights and resolve conflicts in the region.
The Palestinian leader called on partner states and international organizations to take important measures to ensure peace and stability in Gaza and other territories. He emphasized the active participation of the international community in establishing lasting peace in the region.
